Endymion

Just a small token and a birthday gift to Endymion, especially to those founder-member players taking part in the first performance; hence the instrumental line-up of alto flute, cor anglais, clarinet in A, trumpet in C and harp forms the ensemble.

Unusually for me, the form of this little piece is simple and direct: there is an opening melodic line drawn deliberately from The Attraction of Opposites, which itself was a birthday gift to my tutor and mentor Bernard Rands. There follows a sequence of four variants (sometimes simpler, sometimes more complex) plus a brief postlude.
